Adelaido Cruzas (1996)

 

On the years 1996-98, which were my last two  years in Chicago, I became interested in the format of the freak show banner ( a very Chicago tradition) but wanted to use it  to create “advertisements” for very intimate experiences of mine or of places and situtations —usually referencing bygone aspects of Mexico that most people wouldn’t know about, with the absurdity of making a large pronouncement with the extreme subjectivity of the memory.   “Adelaido Cruzas” was exhibited at Prospectus Gallery in 1996 in a solo show that entitled “La obediencia nocturna”.  The work is related to  “Satándranas Obrescas”, which basically is an attempt to create a meta-language using a combination of chilango slang and a lot of my own invented words:
