Land Tender The (2009)

Work consisting of the last movement of Aaron Copland’s The Tender Land Suite (1954) played in reverse, and excerpts from the book by James Agee Let Us Praise Famous Men (1941), read also in reverse.

Agee’s experimental work, made in collaboration with Walker Evans and mixing art and journalism, documents the lives of three American families living in the south during the Great Depression. The book inspired Copland’s to compose The Tender Land.
